Volvo is preparing the most powerful model in its history

And updates its line of electric crossovers

Swedish automaker Volvo is preparing a major update to its all-electric lineup. The company introduced new trim levels for the EX30, EX40 and EX90 models in the US, while also announcing the creation of the most powerful production car in the brand's history.

As previously reported, Volvo's flagship - the EX90 from the 2026 model year - will receive a completely updated 800-volt electrical architecture. It is designed to charge faster and improve overall efficiency. According to Carscoops, Volvo also reveals that the Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance modifications will feature upgraded powertrains that will deliver an impressive 500 kW (or 679 horsepower).

According to the company, this power officially makes the EX90 Twin Motor Performance the most powerful production Volvo ever created. These top models will also feature an improved cooling system and balanced suspension settings for optimal dynamics. In addition, the EX90 now features an electrochromic panoramic roof, ventilated Nappa leather seats, and advanced electronics with new safety features.

Other innovations

The smaller EX30 electric crossover now has a new base modification - Single Motor. Its price in the US starts at $38,950, which makes it $7,700 cheaper than the top version Twin Motor Performance. The model is equipped with an electric motor on the rear axle with a power of 200 kW (272 hp), which provides acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, with a range of up to 420 kilometers.

The standard equipment of this electric crossover includes LED optics, rain sensors, 19-inch wheels, and in the cabin - a 12.3-inch multimedia system, panoramic roof, ambient lighting and wireless charging. A large number of safety systems are also available, including adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system, a pedestrian and cyclist warning system, and a traffic jam assistant.

For those who love adventures and off-road trips, Volvo will also offer the EX30 Cross Country version. This is a more robust, off-road-oriented modification with all-wheel drive, increased ground clearance and a power of 315 kW (428 hp). Acceleration to 100 km/h takes only 3.5 seconds, and the range is up to 365 kilometers. The model comes standard with heated steering wheel and seats, Park Pilot Assist, a 360° camera system, as well as special chassis preparation for difficult roads.

Another new addition is the Volvo EX40 Black Edition. This crossover gets a glossy black logo, 20-inch wheels and is available in Onyx Black, Crystal White, Vapour Grey or Denim Blue exterior colors. The interior features Charcoal Connect Suede Textile upholstery, contrasting white accents and Dark Cutting Edge aluminum elements.
