Xiaomi prepares car for Europe

Large-scale European launch expected in 2027

The high-speed test of the flagship electric beast Xiaomi SU7 Ultra on German autobahns threw down the gauntlet to European competitors. While most new car brands are just starting out, Chinese technology giant Xiaomi is making a serious bid to enter the Old Continent, and not just by any means, but by testing unlimited-speed highways.

The two-day test, personally undertaken by Xiaomi Group President and Partner Lu Weibin, was much more than just a simple drive. It was the final, extremely important stage in the preparation for the large-scale European launch, which is expected to take place in 2027. Such trips, far from the sterile environment of laboratories and test tracks, are an invaluable resource for engineers. It is on sections like those in Germany, where the road surfaces are varied, the traffic is dynamic, and the restrictions on places are lifted, that a car shows its true face.

The route that Lu Weibin drove was a real test of endurance - from cosmopolitan Berlin to the port city of Hamburg, and then to the financial center of Frankfurt, covering about 800 kilometers. He himself said that for him this was his debut experience with high speeds on the autobahn. However, the amazement of the SU7 Ultra's performance was palpable: the car maintained its course with rock-solid confidence even when accelerating to an impressive 260 km/h. This stability and predictability of the steering are of critical importance in the high-performance electric car segment, where not only brutal acceleration, but also behavior at extreme speeds is the real litmus test for the class.

Of course, the focus was not only on speed. The infrastructure aspect was also under scrutiny. Lu Weibin reported that the network of public charging stations in Germany is extensive and extremely convenient. What is even more interesting is that during the recharging breaks, the car attracted the eyes of passers-by and motorists, and a significant number of them recognized the model. This is a serious signal for the Xiaomi team: the brand's recognition as a manufacturer of electric vehicles is growing rapidly in Europe, long before the official start of sales.

Under the hood, or rather in the floor, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra hides a real technological arsenal. Equipped with a CATL Qilin II traction battery with a capacity of 93.7 kWh and an operating voltage of 897 V, the model demonstrates a range of 630 km on the CLTC cycle. Its dynamic performance is from the world of super sports cars: the sprint to 100 km/h takes 1.98 seconds, and the maximum speed is theoretically 350 km/h. This, combined with the tests already conducted in Munich and on the famous Nurburgring track, where the durability of the powertrain and suspension for active driving was tested, proves that Xiaomi is not kidding. Such harsh tests are a guarantee of the precise adaptation of the electric vehicle to the high standards and requirements of the EU markets.

Despite its ambitious entry, Xiaomi's automotive division is in the process of active development and has not yet turned a profit, although operating costs have been significantly controlled. The total investment in the sector already exceeds 30 billion yuan, but the management is optimistic about the second half of 2026, when they expect to achieve operating profitability. This financial stability is set as a key condition before the official European opening of the doors in 2027.

In fact, road tests in Europe began in the summer of 2025. Then the production model was registered in Munich with license plates that symbolically combined the signs of the city and the brand. This step de facto marked the beginning of the official validation of the model on European roads, without which the next stage - certification for sale - is simply impossible. Xiaomi is playing with open cards and will certainly stir up the segment of high-end electric cars.
