After carefully studying the European market, Great Wall Motor (GWM) is no longer just hinting, but giving a clear signal: they are coming in full force! The European division of the Chinese giant reveals specific details about the next phase of its expansion. The key word here is variety – in search of the mass consumer, GWM will launch at least seven new models and modifications by mid-2026, offering an incomparably wider choice of bodies and drives.
ORA 5 takes the lead
The first, most tangible and, let's face it, the boldest step in this new strategy is the all-new GWM ORA 5 compact family. Until now, ORA has been associated primarily with its electric charm, but the "five" fully embraces the philosophy of “All scenarios, all powertrains” for Europe.
First presented in China during the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show, the European premiere is scheduled for mid-2026. The model is based on an all-new, flexible modular platform that allows for the gradual introduction of three different body types.
It will start with a stylish SUV and a practical hatchback in 2026, followed by a longer, more spacious station wagon in 2027. This is a direct challenge to the established players in each of these key segments.
ICE, HEV and BEV
To meet the needs of the widest possible range of customers – from those who are not yet ready to switch to electricity, to those committed to the green transition - the GWM ORA 5 family will offer three drive options. The electric version will be made in Bulgaria, and, as we have already informed you, the start of production in Bulgaria will begin in the middle of next year at the plant near Lovech.
European consumers will be able to choose between a traditional but economical internal combustion engine (ICE), a highly efficient hybrid (HEV) and, of course, a fully electric drive (BEV). In addition, the portfolio will also include plug-in hybrids (PHEV) with a long autonomous range. This triple approach ensures that every buyer will find their "perfect fit", regardless of their individual needs and infrastructure preferences.
Despite radical innovations in powertrains and bodies, the GWM ORA remains true to its DNA - to offer cars with an expressive lifestyle design and a high degree of individuality. With the ORA 5, the brand continues its evolution, reaching "further than ever" without losing its unique appeal. According to the Chinese, it is a reliable, "smart" companion that fits flawlessly into the dynamic, modern everyday life. The new models will represent a decisive step forward in the design language, opening the door to more mature and broader market segments.
The announcement of these ambitious product plans undoubtedly fuels investor appetite for GWM. Over the past two months, over 150 potential new partners – distributors and dealers – from a total of 12 European markets visited Baoding, China, as part of the GWM Partner Day program.
The countdown to mid-2026 is already underway. GWM is committed to significantly expanding its European business, starting with the production of ORA 5 in Bulgaria. Key agreements are currently being concluded with distributors and service providers that will facilitate this leap.
