Toyota launches new large all-electric SUV

The crossover may receive the familiar name Highlander

Toyota is preparing a serious offensive in the segment of large electric family cars, mysteriously announcing that “something new is on the horizon“. Although the official teaser only shows the silhouette of a massive SUV, the industry is already buzzing with speculation that this is the long-awaited all-electric version of the iconic Highlander. With this, the Japanese giant gives a clear sign that it is ready to go head-to-head with competitors such as the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9.

Analysis of the released footage reveals a striking resemblance to the bZ Large SUV concept presented a few years ago. Distinctive features include a “square“ and muscular design, highlighted by a modern LED strip that crosses the entire rear of the car. Although the project was initially linked to the electric bZ subfamily, recent rumors suggest that Toyota may rely on the established Highlander name to gain the trust of its traditional customers.

This new “giant“ will be the brand's first electric model with three rows of seats

The electric SUV will be aimed at large families who do not want to compromise on space or ecology. Production is expected to be localized in Kentucky, USA, with batteries arriving from the company's new specialized plant in North Carolina. This strategic decision underscores Toyota's ambitions to conquer the North American market with a locally produced and technologically advanced product.

While technical specifications are still being kept under wraps, it is clear that the model will offer impressive interior space and will likely be positioned slightly higher than the standard Highlander in terms of luxury and equipment. Given the fact that the official debut is expected in the very near future, lovers of high-tech and large SUVs have every reason to follow the news about the Japanese brand with impatience.
