The Chinese luxury brand Hongqi, known as the "state limousine" of Beijing, is on its way to causing a real breakthrough in the heavy off-roader segment. Footage of extreme winter tests of the brand's new hardcore SUV has surfaced on the Internet, which seems ready to put established legends in its small pocket. In the harsh Chinese winter, at temperatures of -30°C, the machine demonstrates almost supernatural abilities, climbing steep ice walls with startling ease.
The technical armament of this giant sounds like an excerpt from a science fiction novel. The drive is entrusted to four independent electric motors – one for each wheel, allowing precise distribution of traction in real time. Combined with the three differential locks, the new Hongqi promises cross-country ability that borders on the capabilities of a tracked machine. But don't think that this is a clumsy SUV - acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 4 seconds, which shoots it straight into supercar territory.
Visually, the car relies on a brutal, “square“ aesthetics that skillfully intertwine retro motifs with futuristic details. The round headlights take us back to classic off-roaders, but the lidar sensor mounted above the windshield quickly reminds us that this is about cutting-edge technology and intelligent driver assistance systems. The massive bumpers and huge ground clearance leave no room for doubt – this vehicle is designed to wade through deep holes and conquer terrain where roads simply do not exist.
If these characteristics are confirmed at the official market debut, the competition from Europe and America will have to seriously rethink their strategies. With such power and technological superiority, Hongqi's new flagship is on its way to becoming the most discussed topic among lovers of high adrenaline and luxury without compromise. It seems that the era of meek Chinese cars is over – the time of predators is coming.
