New car sales decline in most places

Global sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in January 2025 amounted to 6.53 million units, a decrease of 5.5% compared to the same period last year. This is reported by Focus2move .

China remains the largest car market in the world, despite a 13.4% decline in sales to 2.001 million cars. China's share of global sales is 30.6%.

The second position is held by the United States, where 1.11 million cars were sold in the month, which is 4.4% less than January 2024.

India is in third place with 406,426 cars sold (+1.5%), and Japan is in fourth place with 364,199 cars (+12.9%).

Germany remains the largest car market in Europe, ranking fifth in the world with 207,426 cars sold (-2.7%).

Sixth place is occupied by Brazil, where 159,409 cars were sold (+4.8%).

The United Kingdom falls to seventh place, registering 159,335 cars sold (-6.9%).

Italy lost one position in the ranking, falling to eighth place with 150,338 cars sold (-6.2%).

The top ten is completed by Mexico (118,750 cars) and Canada (117,767 cars).
