Dacia Sandero lost its leadership in Europe, but at the expense of a Renault model

The ubiquitous VW Golf in the past is only in fourth position

According to the results of the first five months of 2025, there is a new leader in sales of new cars in Europe. This is the Renault Clio, which became the sales leader in the European market and displaced Dacia Sandero from first place.

Sales of the Renault Clio model increased by 7.7% compared to the same period in 2024, which is one of the reasons for its leadership. The Renault Clio is considered the favorite car of the French. The model has consistently topped the list of the most popular cars in France since its launch in 1990.

At the same time, last year's leader - Dacia Sandero - fell to second place in the ranking, showing a decline in sales of 8.4%. Experts consider this a normal phenomenon, as the Romanian bestseller is nearing the end of its life cycle and a new generation of the model is about to appear.

The ten most popular models in Europe also include:

Volkswagen T-Roc (+0.3%);
Volkswagen Golf (-16.7%);
Volkswagen Tiguan (+11.8%);
Dacia Duster (+7.1%);
Citroen C3 (-10.9%);
Opel Corsa (+7%);
Toyota Yaris (-12.9%);
Peugeot 2008 (+2.5%).
