In Togliatti, eyewitnesses filmed a prototype of the Lada Niva Sport Turbo with 280 horsepower, which is planned to participate in the 15th rally marathon “Silk Road“. The footage was shot on “Borkovskaya“ Street, in the immediate vicinity of the buildings of “Lada Sport“ Ltd., which develops the car and prepares it for the competition.
The car is moving along the street at a fairly high speed and makes a U-turn. These are the first photos showing the new sports development of AVTOVAZ. The most significant external differences from the regular Niva are the wheelbase increased to 2,550 mm and the track widened to 1,680 mm.
Let us recall that under the hood of this Niva there is a 1.6-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 280 hp and a maximum torque of 340 Nm. This unit was created on the basis of the engine of the Vesta 1.6T racing car of the Super Production class.
The gearbox is a six-speed sequential with a locking center differential. The suspension is independent on both axles with double shock absorbers. The ground clearance of the Lada Niva Sport Turbo is 350 mm. The brake system has four pistons and discs with a diameter of 302 mm, and the steering knuckles are made of forged aluminum.
New features on the model also include a safety frame, a reinforced fuel tank, racing bucket seats, as well as mandatory professional navigation. There is debate on the Internet whether such a car is legal for driving on public roads.
But in fact, it is completely legal and even mandatory for such cars in order for the racing... Two such Niva will start in the free classification “Raid Sport“ of the “Silk Way“ rally marathon on July 12.
