BYD's cheapest electric crossover hits the market

The new BYD Yuan UP is a compact urban crossover measuring 4.3 meters in length

BYD has introduced a new, cheaper base version of its electric crossover Yuan UP. Priced at just $10,400, this model offers a range of up to 300 km, making it an extremely affordable choice in the electric car segment. The model will initially be sold in China and will later be exported under the name Atto 2.

Features and specifications

The new BYD Yuan UP is a compact urban crossover with a length of 4.3 meters. Its basic version has an electric motor with a power of 94 hp and a torque of 180 Nm. This allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about 12 seconds.

The car is equipped with a smaller and more economical battery with a capacity of 32 kWh, which provides a range of 301 km according to the CLTC standard. Fast charging allows the battery to reach 80% of its capacity in just 30 minutes. For comparison, the more expensive versions of the Yuan UP have 177 hp. and a range of 400 km.

Design and equipment

Externally and internally, the cheapest version of the BYD Yuan UP does not differ significantly from its more expensive counterparts. To achieve the lower price, the panoramic roof and the God's Eye semi-autonomous driving system have been removed from the equipment.

However, the model offers a rich standard equipment, including: Digital instrument cluster, 14.1-inch touchscreen, keyless entry system, air conditioning, audio system, Wi-Fi access point.

With this proposal, BYD aims to make electric cars even more accessible to the mass consumer, offering an attractive balance between price and functionality.
