The American developer of ChatGPT OpenAI has become the most valuable startup in the world, overtaking Elon Musk's SpaceX. Bloomberg reports that after the sale of shares by employees, the company is valued at $500 billion.

In April, the corporation was valued at $300 billion. This rapid growth in market capitalization reflects the “investment frenzy“ surrounding technology leaders with the potential to transform industries and the economy. OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, is one of several companies, including Nvidia, that are currently leading a global effort to build data centers and develop artificial intelligence (AI) services.

Altman and Musk co-founded OpenAI in December 2015. Musk served on the company's board of directors but left in 2018. In the spring of 2023, he founded an AI startup called xAI.

Now, the billionaire has become, according to Forbes magazine, the first person to reach a net worth of $500 billion, and is on track to become the first trillionaire in history. Following him on this billionaires list are Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison (USD 351.6 billion), Meta Corporation co-founder Mark Zuckerberg (USD 246.1 billion), Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (USD 233.2 billion) and Google co-founder Larry Page (USD 204.6 billion).
