A possible ban by US President Donald Trump on Boeing aircraft component supplies to China would be a clear loss for the US, according to leading Chinese civil aviation expert Zhang Junlin.

„The point is that Trump has no good cards to play against China, so he grabs anything he can get his hands on“, the Guancha news portal quoted him as saying. "In fact, by imposing a ban on Boeing aircraft spare parts, the US will lose more than it will harm China" (literally: "kill 800 enemies and lose 3,000 people"), he said.

According to the expert, such measures by the American leader will lead to damage to Boeing's business reputation. "If even maintenance and spare parts for civilian aircraft become weapons, this will seriously harm American exports and ultimately lead to a de facto severance of ties," he added.

The expert believes that in the long run this could accelerate the development of the Chinese aircraft industry. “I honestly can't understand how Trump could play this card, which will have devastating consequences for Boeing“, stressed Junlin. He noted that this move will further exacerbate trade disputes between China and the United States.

Earlier, Trump hinted that Washington would limit supplies to China not only of software, but also of many other goods. Specifically, the American leader mentioned spare parts for Boeing aircraft.
