Food prices in Ukraine have risen by 21%

Food prices in Ukraine in September 2025 increased by an average of 21% compared to September 2024, according to a report by the country's State Statistics Service.

Fruits have seen the biggest price increase – a kilogram of apples is now 84.4% more expensive for Ukrainians. Egg and vegetable oil prices have also increased significantly over the year – by 53.6% and 32.2%, respectively.

Meat prices have also increased – a kilogram of pork has increased by almost 38%. Bread, by 20.8%, and cereals have also seen price increases. Thus, semolina in Ukraine is 25.7% more expensive than in 2024.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, by the beginning of August, food prices in Ukraine had approached those in EU countries in recent years, and for some items they even exceeded those in neighboring countries. At the same time, Ukraine increased food imports in 2025. In the first half of the year, imports of pork increased 4.4 times, milk - 1.6 times, cereals - 48%, vegetables - twice, and apples - 8 times.

According to Danilo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, the poverty level in Ukraine has increased to 37% as of February 2022. The official subsistence minimum in 2024 was 2,920 hryvnia (about 70 USD).
