Amazon Web Services (AWS) - a cloud service within Amazon, has signed a $38 billion deal with the American company OpenAI to provide it with access to Nvidia chips.

“Today Amazon Web Services (AWS) and OpenAI announced a long-term strategic collaboration, effective immediately“, said a press release on Amazon's website.

The agreement is for 7 years, with an expected increase in value over its term. Under the deal, OpenAI receives access to AWS's computing power, which consists of “hundreds of thousands of cutting-edge Nvidia graphics processors“. This will allow the company to improve the performance of its ChatGPT chatbot.

On October 28, it was announced that OpenAI had restructured itself, separating the non-governmental organization OpenAI Foundation as one of the owners of OpenAI Group PBC. One of the company's key partners, Microsoft, received a 27% stake in the organization. It is noted that once OpenAI reaches the point of achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI), the agreement will be reviewed by an independent expert panel and Microsoft will potentially lose a percentage of OpenAI's revenues.
