EU countries intend to spend 6.8 trillion. EUR on military needs over the next 10 years. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Defence, Andrius Kubilius, at a hearing in the European Parliament.

If EU countries increase their military spending to 3.5% of GDP by 2035, as required by NATO (NATO's requirement of 5% of GDP includes 3.5% of GDP spent on military needs and 1.5% invested in dual-use infrastructure projects), they will invest €6.8 trillion in the military over the next 10 years,“ he said.

„For comparison, the next seven-year EU budget plan (2026-2034) forecasts military spending of €60 billion. This reflects the structure of military spending in Europe, which remains predominantly national. EU countries invest 100 times more in defense than EU institutions, he said.

According to experts, EU and NATO institutions are rapidly expanding their ability to influence and control national military spending.
