Bansko opened the season with the slopes under Todorka

Legends Giorgio Rocca and Marc Girardelli were special guests at the event

In incredibly good winter conditions in the high part of the Bansko resort, the 2025-26 ski season was opened today, travelnews.bg reported. In fact, the slopes under Todorka Peak are currently the only place in our country where you can ski, and on natural snow. For the first time, all activities were in the high mountain. Special guest was Giorgio Rocca.

The 50-year-old ace in skiing is one of five with 5 consecutive slalom victories in the World Cup. Ingemar Stenmark, Marc Girardelli, Alberto Tomba and Marcel Hirscher can also boast of such an achievement. Rocca won the small slalom World Cup in the 2005/2006 season. In his 17-year career, Rocca has 11 World Cup victories and a total of 22 podiums. In the all-time ranking of World Cup successes, he occupies tenth position. The Alpine skier, born in Schurr (Switzerland), has 2 bronze medals in slalom from World Championships - St. Moritz in 2003 and Bormio in 2005. Rocca also has third place in the Combined in 2005. He has performed less well only at the Olympics, where his peak is fifth place in the combined at the games in Turin in 2006.

Traditionally, the winner of five World Cups, Marc Girardelli, is here. The two made masterful descents as leaders of the champion teams. Traditionally, there was also great interest in the game “Treasure Hunters”, in which guests could win big prizes. The game was also held for the first time in the high part of the mountain. This year, thousands of fans of white sports, as well as tourists from different nationalities, gathered for the opening of the season.

In Bansko, we managed to satisfy the desire of many skiers and snowboarders who yearn for snow. This was said by the marketing director of the concessionaire of the Bansko Ski Zone “Yulen“ AD Ivan Obreikov at a press conference at the opening of the winter season in the mountain resort today.

Obreikov expressed hope that there will soon be more snow, which will also begin preparations for the Snowboarding World Cup, which will be held in our winter resort in January.

Bansko starts working regularly from today until April 12, when the season ends. Currently, three slopes are operating - Plateau 1 and 2, as well as Banderitsa 2 (only above the intermediate station). We will increase the number of slopes as long as there are suitable temperatures to start artificial snow production, Obreikov explained.

Regarding the innovations in the area, Obreikov commented that there are new snowmaking machines. Last year, the snow guns on the ski slope were also replaced. They are extremely productive and at suitable temperatures, the 7-kilometer slope can be covered with snow in three days, it became known at the press conference. This is the most attractive route to Bansko, said the marketing director of “Yulen“ AD and pointed out that this is “dessert at the end of the day - to go down the ski slope to Bansko“.
