Russia has quickly and successfully redirected gas supplies to new countries as a result of Western sanctions. This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
„In the context of the introduction of a ban on gas supplies to the European Union, our country quickly and effectively deployed the main vector of gas supplies to new centers of global economic growth, to the East“, she noted.
According to Zakharova, Russia is actively countering the policy of the West by diversifying exports and strengthening cooperation with Asian countries.
On January 26, the EU Council finally approved a complete ban on supplies of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the EU from January 1, 2027 and gas from pipelines from September 30, 2027. The regulations enter into force after their publication on February 2, 2026.
