Approximately 30,000 jobs in the metalworking and electrical engineering industries could be cut in Bavaria due to the difficult economic situation and structural changes. This is reported by the newspaper Die Zeit, citing the IG Metall trade union.

Horst Ott, head of the regional branch of IG Metall, noted that companies operating in Bavaria have started or announced layoffs of 32,000 jobs. In the automotive industry alone, the layoffs will affect 54% of companies.

At the same time, only 3,000 new jobs have been created. The development of the defense sector cannot yet solve the problem, Ott said. According to his estimate, for every 10 layoffs in the automotive sector, only 1 new job is created in the defense sector.
