In the worst case, bread prices in Romania could rise by up to 35% due to rising energy prices amid the US and Israeli operation in Iran, according to the Romanian Association for Intelligent Energy (Asocia ia Energia Inteligent, AEI).

“Since the beginning of the year, the price of diesel fuel has increased by 30% and, considering that it represents 11% of the price of bread, its price in 2026 will increase by 3.3%, assuming that this crisis lasts at least five months“, Antena 3 quoted the association as saying.

However, the AEI noted that these figures are not the most likely. The actual price increase could range from 15.8% to 24.7%. In the worst case scenario, if sellers take advantage of the situation and decide to pass on the costs to buyers, the price would increase by 26.7% to 35.64%.

Earlier, profit.ro reported that the price of a liter of standard diesel fuel at two Romanian gas stations had exceeded the psychological threshold of 10 lei (2.27 USD). The price increase is linked to the situation in the Middle East.
