German technology company Bosch plans to start series production of humanoid robots at its Black Forest plant in the summer of 2027, according to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (FAS).

According to the newspaper, production will be established in Bühl in cooperation with British startup Humanoid. This makes the Black Forest plant the first in the world where Bosch will start such production. Bosch entered the promising humanoid robot market relatively late, having concluded a number of cooperation agreements with partners in Europe and China, including one with Humanoid.

Humanoid said that series production of humanoid robots in Bühl is expected to start in August 2027. Bosch noted that after successful tests in Bühl, the company will take over the production of robots ordered by Humanoid. In the future, Bosch may also supply individual components, such as drives, motors and sensors. This issue, the company explained, is currently under consideration.

According to Humanoid, the company plans to produce a new generation of robots called Gamma in Bühl. One of the first customers will be the automotive component manufacturer Schaeffler, with whom Humanoid also has a partnership agreement. Humanoid said that several hundred humanoid robots are planned to be produced in Bühl by 2027. Bosch and Humanoid have not yet disclosed the number of employees involved in production, but the initial number is likely to be in the double digits, according to the FAS.

A total of 2,700 people currently work at the Bosch plant in Bühl, producing, among other things, small electric motors and components for automotive window regulators. The company previously announced plans to cut around 1,100 jobs in Bühl by 2030.
