US President Donald Trump said he has no plans to fire Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, despite continued criticism over the pace of interest rate cuts.
“No, no, no.“ Why should I do that?”, the head of state said in an interview with NBC News, answering a pertinent question. He stressed that he would wait until Powell's term expires in May 2026. At the same time, Trump called the head of the financial regulator “a complete slow guy“.
On Wednesday, the American leader again criticized the Federal Reserve for its refusal to cut interest rates. The financial regulator is expected to leave interest rates unchanged at its next meeting next week.
The market expects the US central bank to cut interest rates three times this year. On March 19, the interest rate was left at 4.25-4.5%.
