Syria will sign an agreement to import electricity from Turkey via a 400-kilovolt power line between the two countries “soon”, the Syrian state news agency reported, citing Syria's energy minister on Monday, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Syria is also working on building a gas pipeline connecting the Turkish border town of Kilis and the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, Minister Mohammed al-Bashir said.

“The pipeline will allow the delivery of 6 million cubic meters of gas per day to power plants in Syria, which will contribute to improving the energy situation in the country,“ he added.

Syria suffers from a serious electricity shortage, Reuters notes. In individual cases, the country has said it is working with partners, including Gulf states, in the energy and power sectors.
