Bulgaria and Great Britain with a common vision for sustainable tourism

New initiatives and 4.9% growth in British tourist flow

The main emphasis in the talks between the Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh met with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Bulgaria, H.E. Nathaniel Copsey, was placed on the expansion of bilateral partnerships in the field of tourism, as well as the development of targeted initiatives to promote Bulgaria among British tourists.

"Bulgaria and Great Britain have stable tourism ties and a common ambition to develop sustainable tourism products. Our goal is not just to restore pre-pandemic levels of tourist flow, but to offer excellent quality and new opportunities for British tourists in our country," said Minister Borshosh.

According to data from the National Statistical Institute, in 2024 our country welcomed nearly 253,000 British tourists, which represents a growth of 4.9% compared to the previous year. Although this number still does not reach the levels of 2019, the trend is clearly positive. The interest of British citizens is focused on sea, cultural, urban and winter tourism, with the most visited destinations remaining such as Nessebar, Sofia, Bansko, Borovets and Varna.

The Ministry of Tourism has demonstrated consistent commitment on the international stage, maintaining an active presence at forums such as the World Travel Market in London and New Deal Europe. An expansion of the national stand at WTM is planned for 2025, as a response to the growing interest from the Bulgarian tourism business.

The meeting between Minister Borshosh and Ambassador Kopsi emphasized the importance of institutional and business dialogue in building sustainable and long-term relations in the field of tourism – a direction in which both parties declare their determination to work with a common vision and concrete actions.
