Turkey's annual inflation slows down

In May, it slowed to 35.4% year-on-year

Inflation in Turkey in May was 1.53% compared to the previous month, but on an annual basis, the rate of price growth continues to decrease. As stated in the report of the State Statistical Office of the Republic of Turkshir, the annual inflation rate at the end of May was 35.41% compared to the April value of 37.86%.

The most expensive goods in May were alcohol and tobacco products - 6.97%, clothing and footwear - 2.99%, and transportation - 2.66%. On an annual basis, the record holder in price growth is the education sector - 71.67%, housing - 67.43% and healthcare - 40.12%. Food, alcohol and tobacco, hotels and transport have increased in price in the range of 26-36% over the year.

At the same time, according to a group of independent economists who publish alternative statistics every month, inflation in May was 3.66%, and annual inflation was 71.23%.
