Ukraine's budget deficit, after changes due to increased defense spending, will increase to 46.83 billion USD, or 22.1% of GDP. This is stated in the materials of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
“With these changes to the budget, the total deficit will reach 1.96 trillion hryvnias (46.83 billion USD), or 22.1% of GDP“, the materials of the NBU say.
On November 19, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a budget with a deficit of 1.55 trillion hryvnias (39.5 billion USD), or 19.4% of GDP. Thus, the "hole" in the budget has increased by 7.33 billion USD over the past six months.
Ukrainian media previously linked the need for budget amendments to the growth of military spending. The draft amendments were previously approved by the government and registered in the Rada.
