The total volume of financial assets of the BRICS countries exceeds 60 trillion. USD, which is more than 50% of the world level, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said before the board of directors of the New Development Bank (created by the BRICS member countries).
„Today we are talking about a decade of work of the New Development Bank, the main financial instrument for new investments, for new projects that are being implemented in our countries. And not only in the BRICS countries, but also in the countries of the Global South. Every year the role of the countries of the Global South is growing. We see that the population of the countries of the Global South is almost 70% of the world population, and their share in the world gross domestic product is almost 60%. The total volume of financial assets has reached over 60 trillion. USD, that is, over 50% of the world level“, said Siluanov.
He also pointed out the importance of increasing investment in infrastructure. According to the minister, a new approach is needed to attract financing for a stable long-term inflow of capital, including working with digital financial assets.
