Coca-Cola's recipe is changing

This will lead to job losses in the US

Replacing corn syrup with cane sugar in the production of Coca-Cola will lead to the loss of thousands of jobs in the US food industry. This was stated by John Bode, CEO of the Corn Refiners Association.

“Replacing high-fructose corn syrup with cane sugar will lead to the loss of thousands of jobs in the US food industry, reducing agricultural income and increasing sugar imports, all without any nutritional benefits“, Bode was quoted as saying on the association's website. According to him, the decision to change the composition of the drink “does not make sense“.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with the Coca-Cola company to change the recipe for its leading carbonated drink in the US and to require the use of natural cane sugar in its production instead of corn syrup.

Until the 1980s, natural cane sugar was used as the main sweetener in the production of Coca-Cola in the US, but then it was replaced with cheaper high-fructose corn syrup for cost reasons. Sugar and caramel coloring are also used in the production of Coca-Cola in other countries. Now the US plans to return to a more original recipe for the drink.
