The European Union and the US are close to concluding an agreement that will impose 15% tariffs on European imports, the Financial Times (FT) reported, citing three sources.

According to their information, the agreement resembles the deal with Japan announced by US President Donald Trump and involves the introduction of reciprocal tariffs in the aforementioned amount.

At the same time, as indicated in the publication, the countries will agree not to impose tariffs on a number of products, such as aircraft, strong alcoholic beverages and medical equipment.

Trump previously announced the introduction of 30% tariffs on all European exports from August 1, in addition to the existing 10% tariffs on steel, aluminum and cars from the EU. In response, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the tariffs would undermine transatlantic supply chains and called for an attempt to reach an agreement by August 1, no matter what.
