The "General Labor Inspectorate" (GIT) continues to report a significant number of people working without an employment contract in the "Hotel and Restaurant" sector. Since the beginning of the year, 416 people working without an employment contract have been identified in the sector, out of a total of 2,111 cases identified in all economic activities.
The sector is in the focus of the Agency's activities due to the risk of using various forms of undeclared work, which is why labor inspectors carry out inspections year-round. During the active tourist season, inspection campaigns are also organized in summer and winter resorts.
Since the beginning of 2025, labor inspectors have carried out 3,946 inspections in the "Hotel and Restaurant" sector. 17,459 violations of labor legislation were established, of which 9,758 relate to the implementation of labor relations, and 7,522 to the provision of healthy and safe working conditions. The established violations regarding the employment of foreigners in Bulgaria are 172.
8,686 permits for the employment of minors were issued for the sector.
982 acts of administrative violations were drawn up for the established violations in the sector. The amount of the penal decrees and approved agreements that have entered into force is almost 1.5 million leva.
The Labor Inspectorate uses the occasion to once again remind that a written employment contract with clearly stated working conditions and pay protects the rights of employees to the fullest extent. The salary agreed in writing is important for the social security income, on which benefits are calculated in the event of temporary disability, maternity, unemployment, and in the long term, pension.
