The production of TVs and washing machines under the brand of the South Korean company Samsung has begun in Kazakhstan in the city of Saran, the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan reported.

According to the department, the equipment has begun to be assembled at the Silk Road Electronics plant. “The enterprise will produce Samsung washing machines with support for the SmartThings ecosystem, as well as high-definition TVs with the Smart TV function“, the message says.

The capacity of the enterprise allows it to produce up to 150,000 TVs per year, as well as about 200,000 washing machines. This year, the assembly of the first 10,000 TVs and 25,000 washing machines is planned, the Ministry of Industry of the republic noted. “The launch of world-class production in Kazakhstan is an important stage in the development of the machine-building industry and contributes to the implementation of import substitution and increased localization policies,“ the press service noted.

The Silk Road Electronics plant was put into operation at the end of 2023 on the basis of the former Karagandarezinotekhnika enterprise. Previously, the plant had launched the production of household appliances under the Royal, Shuvaki, Vesta and Artel brands. In March, The Korea Times reported that major South Korean corporations, including LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, were exploring the possibility of returning to the Russian market if the conflict in Ukraine is resolved and anti-Russian sanctions are lifted.
