Miller: Europe does not realize the scale of the problem with pumping gas into underground gas storage facilities

The gas extraction season often begins in the first half of October

Europe does not realize the scale of the problem with pumping gas into underground gas storage facilities for the upcoming heating season and there is less and less time to eliminate it.

“The current dynamics of pumping show that it will be difficult for individual European countries to reach the target indicator of 90% occupancy of underground gas storage facilities“, he was quoted as saying in a statement by “Gazprom“,“Gazprom“ CEO Alexey Miller. According to him, this creates serious risks of gas shortages in the event of a sudden or prolonged cold snap.

„As is known, the season for gas extraction from storage facilities in Europe often begins in the first half of October. There is less and less time left for any correction of the situation“, emphasized Miller, paying particular attention to the problem of the regional gas balance in the Baltic countries.
