Assen Vassilev: The court's decision to keep Kotsev in custody is scandalous

Magistrates are taking on the role of prosecutors, said the former finance minister

The chairman of “We continue the change“ Assen Vassilev commented on the case of the arrest of Blagomir Kotsev and Nikola Barbutov1, bTV reported. He said that the court's decision to keep Kotsev in custody is “scandalous“.

This shows that the magistrates are taking on the role of prosecutors, he believes.

“If the law were respected, Kotsev would be at home. We saw a court that does not respect the law and speaks on behalf of all Bulgarian citizens that the testimony of one witness is 100% true, despite denials and contradictions“, said Vassilev.

The leader of the PP is categorical that the entire process is politically motivated. He accused the prosecutor's office and the court of acting "on orders" and holding people in custody without proper evidence.

According to Vassilev, this is a way to exert pressure and fabricate false testimonies.

He also linked the case to other landmark cases - such as the one in Ruse, where, according to him, the Ministry of Interior and the prosecutor's office also acted "scandalously."

“We saw scandalous behavior by the prosecutor's office and the court in this case. They detained the four boys, one of whom is 15 years old, the other did not get out of the car. That is, he could not have hit anyone. But he was in custody. Now in Veliko Tarnovo they have been released under house arrest. "Children will not go to university and school," commented the PP leader.

Regarding the upcoming vote of no confidence, Vassilev stated that the issue of justice and internal order is "the most severely affected system" and that is precisely why it is in the focus of the opposition.

"People are becoming poorer, incomes are frozen, and the government is ruling through fear. This will sooner or later lead to its end," he said.

The former finance minister stated that partly through administrative decisions, inflation in our country has increased.

"Because the price of electricity has increased by 13.5%, which is over 5%. The price of water has increased by 20%. The price of university education has increased by 8% due to increased university fees. The price of household furniture has not increased. Because it comes by truck, mainly from outside. The price of everything we import from Europe and the world, everything comes by truck and ship, has not moved. Household goods have not gone up. Shoes and clothing have not gone up. What we see is that the main prices that have gone up are the administrative ones. Electricity, water, taxis, the most diverse - tolls, vignettes and so on. Which lead to an increase in the prices of production in the country. By production in the country, I mean that mainly food products have gone up. From there we now go to restaurants, hotels and all kinds of services. And if we look at inflation. All goods that are imported from Europe, their inflation is zero“, believes Vassilev.

According to him, the current government is “too harmful for Bulgaria“ and it must go. “Every party must be ready for elections at any moment“, he emphasized.
