Today, a ninth consecutive protest was held in Varna in support of the detained mayor of Varna Blagomir Kotsev and municipal councilors Nikolay Stefanov and Yordan Kateliyev.
The spokesman for the protest, Boris Kasikov, recalled at the beginning that today the panel of the Court of Appeal - Sofia, which was supposed to decide whether to release Kotsev from detention, recused itself. In his statement, he said that each of the panel members, according to him, had some wrongdoings in the past and pointed to specific cases.
According to preliminary information, the measure of detention for Kotsev will be considered on Tuesday.
People raised posters - "Blago is in detention because he is mayor", and chanted "Mafia" and "Freedom".
A young mother never fails to join in every protest. And this time she is there to express her support. She indicated that she does not believe in Bulgarian justice, but will participate in the actions until justice prevails.
The protest turned into a procession to "Independence" Square. Those demanding Kotsev's freedom were led by young people who carried a huge banner with the inscription: "Freedom for Varna - Freedom for Good".
The organizers previously called on the participants in the action to carry flashlights.
The purpose of the demonstration with mass illumination of the Courthouse building was to demand enlightenment of the judicial system. The act is a sign of dissatisfaction with the "captured judicial system", which acts on political orders and is guided by the shadows, the initiators of the protest noted.
Dozens of lights from flashlights and phones illuminated the square. Motorcyclists also accelerated their machines in a sign of solidarity.
