The police are increasing their presence on the main roads in the country during the three weekends in order to ensure safer traffic. Since early afternoon, traffic on the "Trakia" motorway in the direction of Burgas has increased. There were also columns of cars when leaving Sofia, as well as on the "Hemus" motorway, bTV reported.
There are currently no reports of serious accidents on the Plovdiv section of the "Trakia" motorway, the police report.
Earlier today, at km 209 in the direction of Burgas, an accident occurred, traffic is now flowing normally.
Increased traffic is also expected towards the border crossings. Travelers are urged to check the current situation and choose alternative checkpoints in case of queues.
API has introduced a ban on the movement of heavy trucks over 12 tons today between 17:00 and 20:00 on the busiest routes.
More than 200 squads will work around the clock: Traffic police, security and border police, gendarmerie and special operations teams will monitor speed, risky overtaking, driving after drinking/drugs and the use of seat belts.
