"When we act together and solve problems with will and responsibility, it becomes even stronger". Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov sent a greeting on the occasion of Bulgaria's Independence Day.
"Today we celebrate 117 years since the declaration of Bulgaria's Independence – a great deed, born of courage, statesmanlike determination and diplomatic foresight. Independence is not a gift, but the fruit of perseverance and will, which we are obliged to defend every day. With it, we build a stronger and more modern state – "we are expanding energy connections, strengthening national security, building highways and railways, attracting strategic investments and developing high technologies," the Prime Minister wrote.
Sovereignty is based on stable institutions and a functioning legal system. Freedom has true meaning when our horizon is future generations, so that they have renovated schools, innovative universities and quality education. Independence also means protecting our borders, ensuring security and order, so that our country is orderly and peaceful. Today, Bulgaria is moving forward confidently - we travel freely and quickly. From 2026, the Bulgarian spirit will also come to life in our new euro coins - with the Madara Horseman, Saint Ivan of Rila and Paisius of Hilendar, reminding the whole of Europe of our history, spirituality and dignity. Independence is preserved with constancy and unity. When we act together and solve problems with will and responsibility, it becomes even stronger," he wrote.
Zhelyazkov called for "to preserve what has been achieved, build new successes and look forward with confidence and national self-confidence".
