The Chairman of the Committee for Bulgarians Abroad at the National Assembly Stoyan Taslakov is raising the alarm about a serious case in which a disabled Bulgarian citizen was forcibly mobilized by the Ukrainian authorities, despite his status and without any official notification to the Bulgarian institutions.

Abducted from the street despite disability According to the information submitted to Taslakov by a lawyer representing the family, this is Lyubomir Kirov Lyubomirov, born in 1997 in Sandanski. The man has an officially issued TELK due to a serious injury to his hand. His mother is a Ukrainian citizen, and he recently went to Ukraine to help her take care of her elderly grandmother.

„Lyubomir went out for a short time in the evening and did not return. Later it became clear that he was detained by mobilization teams of the Ukrainian army, without explanation and without the right to contact his relatives“, Taslakov reports.

Consul expelled with curses from Ukrainian center

After his disappearance, the mother immediately turned to the Bulgarian consul in Ukraine. Together they headed to the military center, where, according to testimonies, Lyubomir was taken. However, the diplomat's attempt to provide identification was met with extreme hostility.

“The military expelled him with curses and insults. This is a scandalous attitude not only towards our compatriot, but also towards an official representative of the Bulgarian state,“ claims Lyubomir's mother in a reported incident.

Sent to the “death squad”

The most worrying thing, according to the family's information, is that Lyubomir has already been sent to the front line, to a unit that locals call the “death squad” – formations placed in particularly risky areas with high mortality.

“This is absolutely unacceptable. We are talking about a Bulgarian citizen with a proven physical disability. He has no place on the front line. We cannot allow such treatment of our people – even more so when Bulgaria, according to the actions of our Euro-Atlantic government, is among the countries that most strongly support Ukraine“, Stoyan Taslakov is categorical.

Appeal to Prime Minister Zhelyazkov

The MP insists on an immediate reaction from the Bulgarian Prime Minister Zhelyazkov and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“If we are a strategic partner of Ukraine, they must show respect for us and our citizens. I expect diplomatic pressure and actions for the immediate release of Lyubomir Kirov Lyubomirov“, Taslakov declares.
