Bulgaria will terminate the Russian gas transit contract next year. This became clear from the words of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, who is in the United States to participate in the Annual Session of the UN General Assembly:
"As for the call of President Donald Trump, which was made during the session of the General Assembly, we, as part of the European Union, will join the decisions of the Union to suspend, in the short term - 2026, the contracts for the use or transit of Russian natural gas".
By 2026, the contracts for the use or transit of Russian natural gas should be terminated, and in the long term - by 2028, it should be completely excluded from the Bulgarian energy market, Zhelyazkov added.
According to him, the entire consumption of natural gas in Bulgaria, both for industry and for households, is covered by imports of liquefied gas, supplied through specialized terminals.
During the visit of the Bulgarian delegation to the USA, the Bulgarian Energy Holding signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of North Dakota for research on rare earth metals.
