Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev responded to the leader of “DPS – New Beginning“ Delyan Peevski, who came out with a position against his proposal to increase the price of paid parking in Sofia.

In a post on "Facebook" the mayor explained on what basis the calculations were made.

The proposal is to now pay 4 leva per hour for a blue zone, and 2 leva for a green zone. 2 leva.

It is also proposed to expand the paid parking zones and increase the working hours.

Here is the entire position of Vasil Terziev:

A little over a week ago, I invited you to participate in a survey about parking in Sofia. 22,230 people filled it out – people from all parts of the city, who showed that this is one of the most important topics for Sofia residents.

Thank you to everyone who took the time and shared their opinion. Your answers are the basis on which we prepared specific proposals for change with the aim of more connected, greener and more modern transport in the city.

What we heard from people:

The shortage of parking spaces is the biggest problem – a lot of time is wasted walking around and often parking far from home.

About 50% support expanding the zones in „Banishora“, the southern neighborhoods to „T. Kableshkov“ Blvd., „Reduta“, „Geo Milev“, „Iztok“ and „Izgrev“.

In „Manastirski livadi“, „Krastova vada“ and „Studentski grad“ There is also strong support for a paid zone, but the infrastructure problems there must first be solved.

In the existing green subzones („Center“, „Oborishte“, „Ivan Vazov“, the southern part of „Lozenets“ and „Yavorov“, etc.) people are willing to accept higher prices in order to reduce the pressure for parking.

Those living in the blue zone insist that it should also be open on Sundays.

80% believe that the service subscription should be limited.

On this basis, yesterday, together with the chairman of the SOS Tsvetomir Petrov and the municipal councilors from the PP-DB group Simeon Stavrev, Greti Stefanova, Dimitar Dimitrov and Dimitar Petrov, we submitted a report for amendment in the Regulation on the organization of traffic on the territory of Sofia Municipality.

What we propose:

Expanding the green zone in the southern neighborhoods, „Banishora“, „Reduta“, „Geo Milev“, „Iztok“ and „Izgrev“.

Converting part of the current green subzones into blue ones.

Unifying the working hours of the zones – 8:30-20:30. The blue zone will now also work on Sundays.

Removing paper coupons and maintaining the restriction – until 2 a.m. in blue and until 4 a.m. in green zone.

Prices updated (for the first time since 2012): blue zone - 4 BGN/hour, green zone - 2 BGN/hour.

And most importantly - part of the revenues will remain in Sofia Municipality and will be used for new parking lots, sidewalks and better infrastructure in the neighborhoods.

I thank Simeon Stavrev and the Sofia Municipality administration for all the work on the survey and the report, as well as the municipal councilors who became co-sponsors of the proposals.

These proposals are not from one party or another - they are proposals for the city, based on data from the city. They are the result of the long work of many municipal councilors from different groups, as well as the ideas that we were able to collect from the citizens of Sofia. I hope these ideas will receive the necessary support in the Municipal Council, because working for Sofia is our common responsibility.

Parking can be fairer, more convenient and predictable. And the funds we give will come back to us – in our neighborhoods, in a better and more organized urban environment.

And while people without political representation in the capital are trying to destroy, I will continue our efforts to build together. Politics is action, not talk and cheap populism. Sofia will not be turned into a city of the State with a capital “D“.
