The first autumn month ends with unusually high temperatures and exceptional drought, but we are facing more serious cooling and precipitation in early October. Climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev announced in the morning block of bTV that today there may be combined precipitation of rain and snow on Musala Peak.
"September is leaving 2.5 degrees above normal and terribly dry. Most of the irrigation dams are practically empty", pointed out Prof. Rachev.
According to his forecast, significant precipitation is not expected in Bulgaria today, and the situation will remain similar tomorrow. More serious precipitation will come only over the weekend - on Sunday and Monday.
The new month will begin with a drastic change in weather conditions. October will bring rain and a noticeable drop in temperatures. The cooling will be especially noticeable in the high valley fields, where on Thursday the maximum temperatures will not exceed 15 degrees, and the minimum will fall below 10 degrees.
Prof. Rachev noted that the expected precipitation will be concentrated mainly in the western part of the country, with the sea and the southernmost regions retaining higher temperatures.
Regarding the expected amounts of precipitation for October, the forecasts of the various weather models differ. According to the American model, precipitation will be 30-40% below the seasonal norm, while the European model predicts precipitation within normal limits.
The climatologist emphasized that after the prolonged dry period, which negatively affected the levels in the dams, any rain would be beneficial for restoring water supplies before the winter season.
