The Mayor of Tsarevo: The disaster is under control, but the damage is enormous

Several road sections are closed: the road from Izgrev to Malko Tarnovo due to a destroyed bridge (a bypass route has been provided); the road from Tsarevo to Arapya to Lozenets; the bridges to the Vasiliko neighborhood and to Nestinarka beach

The Municipality of Tsarevo expressed gratitude to the on-duty teams and institutions - police, border police, fire and emergency services, who worked from the early hours of the night to control the critical situation after the record rainfall.

"The road to Sinemorets is open and the river is now flowing freely. We express our sincere gratitude to the Atia Naval Base and the city hall employees for the successful unblocking of the mouth, carried out without the need for the use of controlled explosions, "the city hall wrote on its Facebook page.

"At the moment, the disaster is under control, but we must admit that the quantities of 410 liters per sq. m in the village of Izgrev and the other affected areas caused enormous material damage," the municipality stated. It is recalled that in the 2023 disaster, the damage was over 80 million leva, with the state allocating 42 million leva, without providing funds for large-scale activities in the riverbeds and ravines.

There were no victims or injured people. "Thank God, we have taken care of everyone in need," the administration specified. The facilities built after 2023 have withstood the load, with only peripheral damage to the pavements around them.

Currently, efforts are focused on the Cherna River bed, where dams must be built to limit future spills. Municipal teams are cleaning the affected settlements. A list of damage is being prepared, which will be submitted to the Interdepartmental Commission for Disasters and Accidents.

"All ravines and river beds have been cleaned several times since 2023. We are observing an unprecedented water element, and the outdated infrastructure was not designed for such quantities," the municipality said.

Residents and guests of the area were warned at the beginning of the week by institutions and the media. Tsarevo emphasizes that speculation regarding the BG-Alert system is inappropriate at the moment and urges people to remain careful and, if necessary, seek help from competent officials.

Several road sections are closed: the road between the village of Izgrev and Malko Tarnovo, due to a destroyed bridge (a bypass route has been provided); the road between Tsarevo and Arapya and the village of Lozenets; the bridges to the "Vasiliko" neighborhood and to Nestinarka beach.

Traffic to the villages of Sinemorets and Rezovo is restricted. The road between Tsarevo and Burgas remains open.

All those in need have been evacuated. The actions of municipal teams, the police and emergency services continue on the ground. The municipality reports that there is no danger of dam walls breaking.

The Municipality of Tsarevo will open a donation account to support affected households and businesses. Citizens can also seek assistance from the Social Assistance Service.

After the rainfall subsides, a phased cleanup of the affected settlements will be carried out. Citizens are urged to avoid traveling and not to gather around bridges and flooded areas.

A decision is expected to be made later today regarding the holding of classes and visits to kindergartens next week.
