NSO will not transport the presidential administration.
This was written on his personal Facebook page by the former Minister of Internal Affairs and current MP from the DPS-New Beginning Kalin Stoyanov, who commented on the parliament's decision not to allow employees of the presidential administration to use NSO transport. Here is what Stoyanov also shared:
"Today, in the plenary hall of the National Assembly, the bill submitted by me to amend the Law on the National Security Service was adopted on second reading. With this amendment, we have suspended the possibility of the NSO to provide transport for the numerous presidential administration. By repealing the existing provision (Art. 14, para. 1, item 14), we have taken away the right of a wide range of persons serving the president to travel in NSO cars, operating under a special regime, and to use specially trained, paramilitary drivers from the service.
This is an unnecessary privilege for the numerous administration of the president, which in practice turns the NSO into an ordinary transport service. I emphasize that with this amendment we are not taking away the security or NSO cars from the president, regardless of who he is. We are taking away the opportunity for his huge administration to be served by paramilitary employees and NSO cars.
In Bulgaria, there are 19 ministries, the National Assembly, agencies, departments and numerous other structures with their own administrations, but none of them travel in NSO cars and drivers. With the repeal of item 14 in Art. 14, para. 1 of the NSO Law, we are not depriving the President's administration of transport or drivers, we are simply eliminating the possibility that these are professionally trained NSO employees, whose functions by law are fundamentally different. No one from the President's administration should worry about being left without official transport.
Potential difficulties could arise when transporting valuable gifts, such as engraved watches or significant amounts of money in leva to various exchange offices for their conversion into euros. I am convinced that the advisors and secretaries around the President are imaginative and will quickly rearrange the scheme used".
