Bulgaria requests assistance from the EU Solidarity Fund due to flood damage

During the meeting, coordination between the Traffic Police and the RIA was also discussed

With an official letter, the Deputy Minister of MRDPW Yura Vitanova initiated the start of a procedure under the EU Solidarity Fund for the Southeast Region.

"The commitment of the Ministry of Interior structures will be to prepare summarized information on the primary assessments of the damage and the eligible costs". This was stated by the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov during a working meeting together with the Regional Minister Ivan Ivanov in connection with the first procedures for the recovery of damage from the heavy rainfall in recent days.

"On your part, MRDPW will provide the necessary documentation with which a country will not apply for assistance from the fund. The Solidarity Fund is the EU's main instrument for assisting in the recovery from natural disasters and is an expression of European solidarity. In addition, the Union provides effective support to Member States or candidate countries to help them cope with the consequences of major natural disasters - floods, forest fires, earthquakes, storms or droughts", explained the Minister of the Interior.

During the meeting, the coordination between the "Traffic Police" and the RIA to introduce a temporary traffic organization due to highway repairs and traffic relief in the closed sections was also discussed.
