Cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey is of key importance for security in the region, said Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov at his meeting with the Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeal of Turkey Muhsin Şentürk. Prime Minister Zhelyazkov received Şentürk for a conversation today at the Council of Ministers as an expression of the excellent bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Turkey.
Partnership is always based on trust, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said during the meeting. The Prime Minister noted that all forms of bilateral cooperation are at the highest level, emphasizing in particular the fruitful political dialogue and the good partnership between the services of the two countries. The result is more guarantees for the security not only of Bulgaria and Turkey, but also of Europe thanks to the successful counteraction to illegal migration and the protection of the common border, which is also the external border of the European Union.
In addition, the focus of attention of the two countries is the safety of shipping in the Black Sea and the effective actions of the mine action group in cooperation with Romania. The joint efforts of the Bulgarian, Romanian and Turkish naval forces are recognized as an example of cooperation and coordination in the complicated geopolitical situation.
Zhelyazkov and Shenturk united around the understanding of the enormous role of the joint efforts of Bulgaria and Turkey in the fight against cross-border crime, terrorism, drug trafficking, money laundering, trafficking in people, cigarettes and oil. During the meeting, the Prime Minister also highlighted the mutual interest in deepening cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey in the areas of economy, trade and connectivity.
For his part, Muhsin Şentürk also confirmed that the two countries together are stronger against organized and cross-border crime. He especially highlighted the excellent level of cooperation between the services and law enforcement agencies of Bulgaria and Turkey. In his words, it is precisely the partnership that is important for the security of both countries.
