The City Councilors Rejected the Proposal for the Creation of a Caravan Village in the “Vrabnitsa“ Area Next to the “Lomsko Shose“ Metro Station.
The Proposal of Mayor Vasil Terziev was for the Sofia Municipality to receive a grant from the Council of Europe Development Bank for the Implementation of the Project “Initiative for Emergency and Long-Term Housing Solutions for Vulnerable Families from the “Modern Suburb“ and “Sugar Factory“, bTV listed.
In return for the grant, the municipality will provide municipal land, which is located next to the “Lomsko Shose“ metro station. Mobile homes will be placed on it.
The reason for the relocation is the upcoming modernization of the Sofia-Dragoman railway line. The route must pass through an area where there are many buildings illegally built on state-owned land.
“A large number of the residents living there are socially and economically vulnerable, including children and disadvantaged citizens, and are unable to solve their long-term housing needs“, the report says.
The homes will be removed, and the people – temporarily accommodated for 12 months in mobile homes, which will be placed on the site next to the “Lomsko Shose“ metro station, bordering the “Vrbnitsa“ district. Financing will be provided by the Council of Europe Development Bank.
