A 23-year-old man died in a three-car pileup on the Podbalkanski road a few days ago. It is alleged that it was a chase between cars at a speed of up to 260 km per hour. According to unofficial information, the car of the deceased Martin was moving towards the village of Chelopech. The other two cars were coming towards him, Nova TV pointed out.
It was established at the scene that three passenger cars crashed. One driver was transported to hospital and admitted to intensive care with a life-threatening condition, and it later became clear that he had died. The other driver was admitted for treatment in a surgical ward, without a life-threatening condition. The third driver was not injured.
The police say that at this point there is no evidence of organized racing.
Marin Marinov is a friend of the deceased. The two had an appointment to meet that evening. On the air of “Hello, Bulgaria” he said that there was indeed a race between two cars, but his friend with his own car was the victim. Marin said that he does not personally know the participants in the race, but he knows that they regularly drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
“These people always drove like this. Everyone knows, but no measures are taken by the law enforcement agencies. There is also an attempt to cover up one of the participants in the incident because he is from a wealthy family,” he added.
