The President Vetoed the Amendments to the DAR Law

On October 10, the Parliament Decided that the Heads of DAR and DATO Will No Longer Be Appointed by Decree of the Head of State

President Rumen Radev returned for new discussion in the National Assembly provisions of the Law on Amendments to the Law on the State Agency “Intelligence“ (DAR), adopted on October 10, 2025, by which the power to appoint and dismiss the Chairman of the Agency is assigned to the National Assembly.

We recall that on October 10, the Parliament decided that the Heads of DAR and DATO will no longer be appointed by decree of the Head of State, but will be elected by the National Assembly. The proposal was made by the ruling majority. The idea of “Vazrazhdane” was rejected the changes should be postponed for one year and take effect after the next president and vice president are sworn in.
