Political scientists: Closing Lukoil will hit the budget, the economy and will blow up the political scene

No one is ready for early elections

If we fail to agree on a derogation and “Lukoil Neftochim Burgas“ is closed, this will have a serious impact on the budget. This was stated in “120 minutes“ on bTV by political scientist Dimitar Ganev and added that this could happen at an extremely unpleasant moment for the state, when a high deficit is expected for next year.

“This could also affect economic growth. It could also lead to a short-term increase in fuel prices in the country. Here are three risks that could also lead to political problems. When there is a spike in fuel prices, this always affects the prices of goods and services“, he added.

Political scientist Prof. Vasil Garnizov added that the US sanctions aim to “make Putin more pliable and please Donald Trump to be the peacemaker of the year“. According to him, however, the consequences could be quite serious. He gave the example of the fall in the share prices of sanctioned companies and the spike in the price of oil.

“Last week started with a Borisov who was angry that the ministries were given in circles and circles and ended with a joint photo and a truce with the same circles and circles. I think both of them (Peevski and Borisov) were surprised by what happened, because part of the talks were about “Lukoil“, without knowing that it would fall under the American embargo“, Garnizov pointed out.

Ganev stated that the results of the Pazardzhik elections were only the occasion, but not the cause of the tension between GERB and DPS-New Beginning: “Borisov is well aware that the situation is not comfortable for the party in this governance structure, in which GERB bears the greatest responsibility, and at the same time its support is falling, which could face very big challenges in the short term. This was Borisov's attempt to initiate a conversation about change within the structure“.

According to him, the result is minimal – the post of the Speaker of Parliament will be on a rotational basis. According to him, there is no way to make major changes in this configuration.

„No one is ready for early elections, a major role in this unpreparedness is played by the figure of the president and his phantom presidential party, which is warming up by the reserve bench. None of the current participants is ready to open the door to a new initiative by Radev. Everyone is inclined to have Radev serve out his term to the end, retire as president, let his energy subside and then, if he wants - to command the field of politics“, commented Garnizov.

Political scientists are categorical that when the domestic political situation in our country is not stable, our country cannot be a reliable partner on the international stage.
