The rebellious father: Why was Archimandrite Nikanor banned from preaching

Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the patriarch and I have become the faces of the two currents in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church

Where are the boundaries of faith, for whom is it intended and for whom is it not? This week, information came out that Archimandrite Nikanor is banned from preaching. Why was the long-time abbot of the Montenegrin monastery “St. St. Cosmas and Damian” punished?

“Initially, they banned me from celebrating the Holy Liturgy for a month, but then another document came out for two weeks. The official reason is in connection with an audit that has been going on for nine months. They want me to provide documents that do not exist. We have not kept petty accounts”, the father pointed out. According to him, the monastery is a home for people, not a business.

“You steal with invoices, not without. If a person wants to abuse it, he will. I find the punishment inappropriate”, says Archimandrite Nikanor. He did not hide that he had submitted an application to leave the diocese, since he could not work with its leadership.

“Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the patriarch and I have become the faces of the two currents in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. He has been repeating his Russian proxies and justifying the war, and I have spoken out many times in opposition to this. I have distinguished myself from him as a person since he was metropolitan”, adds the priest.
