We will build another plant, for medium calibers, said GERB leader Boyko Borisov during a forum at "Capital" - Regional Defence Summit 2025. He joined the discussions together with the director of "Rheinmetall" Armin Paperger shortly after the signing of a contract for a gunpowder plant, which will be built in Bulgaria worth 1 billion euros, BTA indicated.
"If there was no regular government, we would not have signed this contract today. We would not have signed for the next plant. And believe me, in mechanical engineering, in industry, his friends are waiting - this is the family business. When one of them comes, when a central striker like Mr. Paperger comes to Bulgarian football, a left back will come, then a right back,“ Borisov explained.
"And President Radev said good things about this deal," Borisov emphasized.
"The world is divided right now. I have firmly chosen where GERB is - it is with colleagues from Western Europe, the USA and I support Ukraine", Boyko Borisov also said.
"It is very important that the supply chains are here", Borisov added.
"God forbid, we are all for peace, in a conflict, waiting for them to bring you guns, shells, gunpowder, that is fatal", he also said.
"Papperger teams in Bulgaria have already visited some of the private arms factories, and we have wonderful ones – in Panagyurishte, in Samokov, Stara Zagora and they know the entire arsenal of “Rheinmetall“ and its subsidiaries", Borisov also said.
Borisov: I am not afraid of either Radev or Peevski, but I feel animal fear of the impending war
"This will give a boost to heavy engineering throughout the region and will be especially in Bulgaria. We have an extremely qualified workforce, very good engineers, good specialists, very good innovative scientists and they are doing everything possible through the government for them to meet with the people on the front lines and Mr. Paperger", added the GERB leader.
"We want to have such a defense industry, industry and army that does not allow other countries to think that they can attack us", expressed the opinion of the GERB leader.
According to him, the crisis will become more severe and Europe must think about how to get itself out of the situation it is in.
"Our next moves are in the steel sector, in mining, where we have such precious metals for which we have closed the mines – we have something to talk about, to build together, and we also have something to talk about Peevski, of course," Boyko Borisov added.
It is claimed that at the opening of the Semiconductor Plant in Botevgrad, Todor Zhivkov said: "This year a semiconductor plant, next year - for entire conductors!".
