Iva Miteva: As things stand, what prevents them from electing the president from the National Assembly, just like in Greece and Italy?

"I think the direction they took is not right. I think they have no place in this coalition. They do not want to run the state for the people, but rather want it for themselves," Miteva said in reference to ITN

As of this week, the 51st National Assembly has a new speaker - Raya Nazaryan from GERB-SDF. Nazaryan took Natalia Kiselova's seat as part of a new agreement between the partners in the government.

So now, every ten months of this government, the speakers of the parliament will change on a rotational basis. Has this post turned into "a bargaining chip"?

„This post, as it were, has begun to lose its face a little in recent years. In a parliamentary republic, the position of Speaker of the National Assembly should be a difficult one. Unfortunately, this, as if they started it, I say it with pain, “We continue the change-Democratic Bulgaria“, because they introduced the so-called rotating chairman“.

This was commented on “This Sunday“ on bTV by Iva Miteva, former Speaker of the National Assembly.

“They were trying to introduce it in the 47th National Assembly. Then we somehow managed to hold it back and said that such a decision was not worthy. Then we saw it in the Anti-Corruption Commission - again this rotating chairman, as if they failed to understand the principles of governing the state“, she noted.

“We see now that we have five prime ministers, we see that we will have four chairmen of the National Assembly. Thank God that the election for the president is direct and we will not have five rotational presidents“, said Iva Miteva.

The way it has gone - especially when we are given the example of the Greek model for an electoral system, for official cabinets, what prevents them from electing the president from the National Assembly, as it is in Greece, in Italy, and for it to be rotational“, she asked

According to her, the place of the Speaker of the National Assembly is not in the House Book, because this violates the separation of powers.

"We all hope for early elections, but whether they will happen - we will find out soon", said Miteva.

According to her, "there are definitely four parties ruling at the moment".

"APS, after left, it was clear that the criterion would now be the votes of no confidence. The votes of no confidence are clearly supported by four formations. The Speaker of the Parliament is the other sign - he was elected with the votes of "DPS-New Beginning" again. We will now see in the budget, which is the key to parliamentary government - with which votes it will be adopted," commented Iva Miteva.

According to her, there is no split in "There is such a people", although she has not maintained contact with the formation for more than 3 years.

"I think that the direction they have taken is not correct. I think they do not belong in this coalition. They do not want to run the state for the people, but rather want it for themselves," she said.

According to her, Borislav Sarafov is currently illegally performing the functions of the Prosecutor General.
