Leaks and cracks in the old emblematic building of the National Assembly, which is a cultural monument. The mayor of the capital's "Sredets" district, Traycho Traykov, warned about the problem, quoted by bTV.

Completed in 1886, survived the bombings in 1944. Among the first politicians to cross the threshold of the National Assembly were Stefan Stambolov and Petko Karavelov, says Associate Professor Svetoslav Zhivkov.

"Prince Alexander himself opened this first session in 1885. The first thing that was actually voted on here was the approval of a contract for the construction of the railway line from Tsaribrod to Vakarel, which is that part of the Bulgarian territory that connects Constantinople with central and western Europe," commented the lecturer in Modern Bulgarian History at the Sofia University.

Due to the falling plaster, restrictive tapes were placed in 3 places around the building, as prescribed by the district mayor. If the condition of the building deteriorates, the district administration has the right to issue a ban on use.

"I would not want this to happen in any case, on the contrary, if I could, I would issue an order for mandatory use of the building as the National Assembly, but ultimately this depends on the NA", said Traycho Traykov, mayor of the capital's "Sredets" district.

More than 2 years ago, the deputies moved to the former Party House due to an urgent need for renovation. Since then, the historic NA building has not been actively used. Despite this, renovations have never begun.

"In the ideal center of Sofia, all renovation procedures are delayed for a number of reasons. This is an objective circumstance," added Traykov.

The parliament administration did not allow us to enter. They assure that surveys and preparatory activities have been carried out. Now a competition for a conceptual concept for restoration is coming up. And funds for the repair have been provided from the National Assembly budget for 2024.
